By my life, if you have spent the evening sleepless with illness,
By my life, though I pass the night awake in sickness,
Imagining your soft bed to have the fiery heat of embers,
Imagining the soft bed glowing with embers,

فقد أسهرت يمناك بالأمس أمةً

رأت غبنها فيما قضيت من الأمر
Then your right hand kept a nation awake yesterday,
For your sake I kept vigil one night over a nation
A nation that saw itself wronged by the decisions you made.
That saw the wrong done in your tyrannical deeds.

حليف الضنى بين المهانة والثبر
So die unpraised; and if you wish, live on,
So die unpraised! Live on, if you will,
A companion of wasting sickness, between humiliation and ruin.
Wedded to grief, mid shame and honor.
