O people, this is not the law of literature,

O people, this is not the way of decency

Nor did the Arabs speak in favor of such work.

Nor is this what the Arabs used to say

أتقبلون عابد العزيز

أتقبلون عابد العزيز

وليس بالمترو ولا الوزيزي

وليس بالمترو ولا الوزيزي

Do you accept Abid al-Aziz,

You accept the worshipper of al-Aziz

Though he is neither “al-Mitru” nor “al-Wazizi,”

Who is neither mature nor wise

وترفضون طاهر الأعراق

وترفضون طاهر الأعراق

And reject one of pure lineage—

And you reject Tahir al-A'raaq

While claiming you are in a university

And you claim that you are in a university

Shielded from corruption and keeping it at bay?

Safe from corruption, preventing it
