The singers sang around me, but nothing reached

my soul, though the melodies startled my ears.

like houris dancing in Ridwan's dreams.

It comes from your beauty, pearls in ordered sequence,

like poetry arranging melodies in measured rhythms.

I shape the inspiration of a heart that you inspire,

until its anguish has made it the finest artist.

Without my poetry, without what I proclaimed,

you would not have become a full moon of beauty and tenderness.

Your black eyes and the magic dwelling in them

are among what I created with my melodies and sorrows.
