Had it not been for love of you, I would have lived long,
But I fell in love with you and ended up slain.
But you burdened me, so I became slain,

And you made the lover's glance agonized,
weeping for bygone days, morning and evening.
Weeping over past conversations morning and evening,

I did not wail from the pain of rejection; rather,
I have not complained of the pain of estrangement, but
I feared that parting might find a way.
I feared the separation would find a way,

when I grew accustomed to closeness and favors.
In which I accustomed myself to nearness and intimation,

surely see coyness as a sign of parting.
See passion for separation as evidence,

like night in sorrow, like the slaughtered in derangement.
Like the night, worried, and the slaughtered, timid,
