O people, this is not the law of literature,

O people, this is not the way of proper conduct,

Nor did the Arabs advocate such conduct.

Nor is this what the Arabs have ever said.

أتقبلون عابد العزيز

أتقبلون عابد العزيز

وليس بالمترو ولا الوزيزي

وليس بالمترو ولا الوزيزي

Do you accept Abid al-Aziz,

You accept the worshipper of al-Aziz,

And he is neither al-Metro nor al-Wazizi,

Who is neither refined nor respectable.

Protected from corruption and warding it off?

Free of corruption and vice.
