ساعةٌ مرّت وفي القلب هواك

ساحر النغمة خفّاقَ الجناح

An hour has passed with you on my mind,

Sorcerer of melody, flutter of wing.

يرشفُ اللثمةَ من كأس لماك

في ظلال الأنس والصفو المتاح

You wet your lips from a cup of wine

In the shade of intimacy and openness.

سكبت نجواك في الروح الأمان

وأراني الوصل أسرار جمالك

Your companionship brought my soul peace,

And showed me your beauty’s mysteries.

فتمَثّلت فراديسَ الجنان

ورأيتُ الخلدَ منضور وصالِك

The gardens of paradise appeared before me,

I saw eternity in our union.

وقفَ النجمُ وألفى بالهُ

ليعُدَّ اللمح من قلبى وقلبِك

The stars paused, enchanted,

To count the glances between our hearts,

ويحَ هذا النجم ممّا هالهُ

في ضميرِ الليل من حبّي وحبّك

Marveling at what amazed them

Of my love for you in the conscience of night.

غارَت الأنجم من قلبى الطروب

ما يقول الناسُ لو شاموا غرامي

The stars envy my euphoria -

What would people say if they knew my passion?

أنا بالأفنان فتاكٌ لعوب

يزدهيني الغيّ في تيهِ هيامى

To the beauties I am a deadly flirt,

Lost in the wilderness of my infatuation.

شبهةٌ في قلبك البكر يلوح

طيفها المرتاب في إنسان عينِك

Doubt creeps into your innocent heart,

Its uneasy shadow in your eyes.

أنا يا مولاي لو تعلمُ روح

يهصرُ المطلولَ من مائدِ غصنِك

My lord, if only you knew my soul

Would trickle from the branches you extend.

تنظرُ الساعة من حين لحين

ليت شعري ما الذي يستعجلك

You glance at the hour now and again -

I wish I knew what makes you so impatient.

إنّ هذا الوصل أحلام سنين

فاتّق الحب ودع ما يشغلك

This reunion is the dream of years,

So be wary of love, leave what distracts you.
