ساد في ذا الزمان كل خسيس
سافلbase واستكانand submitted كلevery رئيسleader
سافل واستكان كل رئيس
In this age every vile man has come to rule—
The base prevailed in this era, every lowly one,
A base wretch—while every leader has submitted.
And every leader became submissive.
أصبحتhas become زمرةclique النفاقhypocrisy بعزٌin honor
أصبحت زمرة النفاق بعزٌ
وأولوand those possessing الفضلvirtue فيin عناءhardship وبوسand misery
وأولو الفضل في عناء وبوس
The clique of hypocrisy has gained honor,
The band of hypocrisy has become mighty,
While those of virtue endure hardship and misery.
While those of merit are in sorrow and kissing feet.
ياO بنيsons of شعبناour people نهوضاrise! فقدfor indeed طالhas grown long
يا بني شعبنا نهوضا فقد طال
ثواكمyour stay بينamid ازدراءcontempt وبؤسand misery
ثواكم بين ازدراء وبؤس
O sons of our people, rise, for long has been
O children of our nation, rise up, for your sleep has been long,
Your stay amid contempt and misery.
Among contempt and misery.
فانهضواso rise كلكمall of you بقلبwith a heart امرئof a man لاnot
فانهضوا كلكم بقلب امرئ لا
يرهبfears الموتdeath أوor نزالcombat الخميسthe army
يرهب الموت أو نزال الخميس
So rise, all of you, with the heart of a man who does not
So rise up, all of you, with the heart of a man who
Fear death or combat with an army.
Does not fear death or the descent of fate.
قدindeed عهدناكمwe have known you لدىduring الحربwar ماreinforcing particle
قد عهدناكم لدى الحرب ما
بينamong كماةarmored warriors تعليexalt الحياةlife وشوسand fierce warriors
بين كماة تعلي الحياة وشوس
We have known you in battle,
We knew you in war, between determination that elevates life,
Among champions who exalt life and fierce warriors.
And ferocity,
وتعافونand you abhor الضيمhumiliation شرباdrinking ولوand even if
وتعافون الضيم شربا ولو
كانwere شراباa drink فيهin it قوامsustenance النفوسsouls
كان شرابا فيه قوام النفوس
And you abhor drinking humiliation, even if
And you endure injustice imbibing it, even if
It were a draught that sustains souls.
It was a drink that dims the souls.
ياO بنيsons of شعبناour people أفيكمis there among you? فتىa youth يغضبgrows angry
يا بني شعبنا أفيكم فتى يغضب
حقاtruly لربهon behalf of his Lord القدوسthe Most Holy
حقا لربه القدوس
O sons of our people, is there among you a youth who grows angry
O children of our nation, is there no youth among you who truly angers
Truly, on behalf of his Most Holy Lord?
For his Holy Lord?
إنماonly المرءa man بالنواياby intentions وإنand even if يلبسhe wears
إنما المرء بالنوايا وإن يلبس
أثوابrobes العدلjustice والتقديسand sanctity
أثواب العدل والتقديس
A man is but his intentions, even if he wears
A man is only by his intentions, even if he wears
The robes of justice and sanctity,
The clothes of justice and piety,
ناظراlooking فيinto مصالحinterests الشعبthe people ميالاinclined
ناظرا في مصالح الشعب ميالا
إلىtoward الخيرgood نابذاa rejecter للمكوسof levies
إلى الخير نابذا للمكوس
Considering the people's interests, inclined
Looking to the people's interests, inclining
Toward good, rejecting levies.
Towards good, repudiating falsehood,
وبصرفand by spending الأموالwealth فيin سبيلthe cause of الخيرgood
وبصرف الأموال في سبيل الخير
تحظىbenefit بهاfrom it جميعall النفوسsouls
تحظى بها جميع النفوس
And by spending wealth in the cause of good,
And by spending money in the way of good,
All souls benefit from it.
All souls will be gratified.
