After today, you will gnash your teeth in remorse,

when the people's heart speaks openly of what it has concealed,

and those who reject oppression answer a caller's cries,

whose cries to them reached humankind and the jinn.

He calls at the top of his voice, saying to us:

Take heed: awake, O drowsy nation of Yemen!

Indeed, this, this sleep has lasted so long that it is as though you—

the farthest and nearest among you—had taken refuge in the cave.

But it is a cave whose darkness is intense,

fearsome, while the People of the Cave found safety in it.

Take heed: rouse your minds and awaken!

For the West is no more entitled to glory in the worlds than we are.

Take heed: rise at once, then, so that your resolve may remain intact.

And be a single hand, so that we may ward off death from ourselves.

Cast the cloaks of ignorance off yourselves,

and off your dignity; make blows and thrusts speak.

For a sensible person, there is no good in a life of humiliation,

and in his death with dignity, he sees no loss.

Is there no protective zeal and ardor among you

for faith, kin, the land, and children?
