Rebound upon you, how oft did I defend you against folly

You who are king, it was more fitting for you
and leaving caprice to those inclined toward tyranny.
To make the pilgrimage, leaving passion to the wanton

من العالم المرهوق بالجور والعنف
As though I, if you oppressed me, were more than one
Many a one wearied with tyranny
of humanity, burdened by injustice and violence.
And injustice and violence has burdened me

You installed an imam for progress in the world,
You established an imam to make progress in life
so he became an imam for progress in destruction.
Yet he made progress only in tearing you to pieces

You brought him forth to behold a radiant universe
but he thrust you inside, admiring the darkness beneath the roof.
Yet he plunged you instead into the darkness beneath the ceiling

At first you pledged him allegiance with ranks

You chose him in heedlessness, to your own destruction,
You chose him out of ignorance to be destroyed
so you were like a sheep seeking death with its cloven hoof.
So you were like sheep seeking slaughter with stupidity

Is it not time to face him with defiant roar
a roar, until he plunges skull-first into despair?
Or drive him to despair and dejection?

Then bring in his son, the sword Ahmad
so he hears from you the frankest words, spoken with force.
That you may speak to him most frankly in outrage
