قرآنناour Qur’an شهدhoney فلاso not
قرآننا شهد فلا
يحتاجneeds فيهconcerning it إلىto شهادهtestimony
يحتاج فيه إلى شهاده
Our Qur’an is honey, so no
Our Quran bears witness, so
testimony concerning it is needed.
It needs no other testimony
فيهin it الحلاوةsweetness والثناand praise (continued)
فيه الحلاوة والثنا
ءcompletes ‘praise’ واجرand reward واعيهone who understands it زيادهincrease
ء واجر واعيه زياده
In it are sweetness and praise,
In it is sweetness and praise
and extra reward for whoever understands it.
And its aware reciter gains reward
بلrather هوit منamong اهدىbest at guiding الهداthe guides (continued)
بل هو من اهدى الهدا
ةcompletes ‘guides’ لناfor us ومنand among خيرthe best العبادهworship
ة لنا ومن خير العباده
Rather, it is among the best guides
Rather it is the best guidance for us
for us, and among the finest acts of worship.
And the best form of worship
لاnot يسأمgrows weary السامعthe listener والـand the
لا يسأم السامع والـ
ـقارئreader منهof it بالاعادهthrough repetition
ـقارئ منه بالاعاده
The listener does not tire, nor does the
The listener and reciter
reader, of it when it is repeated.
Do not tire of repeating it
بلrather كلماwhenever كررis repeated بلـbegins ‘finds’ (uncertain reading)
بل كلما كرر بلـ
ـقىcompletes ‘finds’ منwhoever يعيهunderstands it بهthrough it افادهbenefit
ـقى من يعيه به افاده
Rather, whenever it is repeated,
But the more it is repeated
whoever understands it finds benefit in it.
The more benefit it brings to the aware
بلrather حاملوهthose who bear it لكلfor everyone منwho
بل حاملوه لكل من
آمنbelieves بالرحمنin the All-Merciful سادهleaders
آمن بالرحمن ساده
Rather, its bearers, for all who
And it is carried by all
believe in the All-Merciful, are leaders.
Who believe in the Merciful as leaders
اقوىstrongest دليلproof يكتفيis content
اقوى دليل يكتفي
ذوpossessor of العلمknowledge فيهwith it عنwithout needing الزيادهmore
ذو العلم فيه عن الزياده
The strongest proof—it satisfies
The strongest proof that satisfies
the learned, with no need for more.
The knowledgeable without addition
كمhow often قدhas أزالdispelled الشكdoubt منfrom
كم قد أزال الشك من
منone whom خامرpervaded الشكdoubt فؤادهhis heart
من خامر الشك فؤاده
How often it has dispelled doubt from
How much doubt it has removed
one whose heart doubt had pervaded!
From one plagued by doubt in heart
يهوىloves القناعةcontentment ذوpossessor of الهدىguidance
يهوى القناعة ذو الهدى
منهfrom it ويأتلفand grows fond of الزيادهmore
منه ويأتلف الزياده
The rightly guided loves contentment
One guided finds tranquility in it
with it, and grows fond of more.
And increase harmonizes with it
وإذاand when استجارseeks refuge بهin it احتمىfinds protection
وإذا استجار به احتمى
منfrom كلeveryone منwho يبغيseeks كبادهharm to him
من كل من يبغي كباده
And when he seeks refuge in it, he is sheltered
And when one seeks refuge in it
from everyone who seeks to harm him.
It protects from all who wish its reciter harm
