جرىcame to pass القضاءthe decree بأنthat نحياwe live إلىuntil قدرan appointed term
فلاso no يقيناprotects us حمىrefuge منfrom ذلكthat القدرthe destined end
It has been decreed that we live until our appointed end,
Fate decreed that we live according to destiny
So no refuge can protect us from that fate.
So neither of us can be protected from that destiny
وحيثand since لاno بدescape منfrom موتdeath لذيfor one with اجلan allotted lifespan
فقلماthen say: what الفرقthe difference بينbetween الطولlength والقصرand brevity
And since death is inevitable for anyone with an allotted lifespan,
And since death is inevitable for those with a life span
Then say: what difference is there between a long life and a short one?
There is little difference between long life and short
فيفرحso rejoice الناسpeople فيat موتthe death لذيof one with ضررharm
ويحزنونand they grieve لذيfor one with نفعbenefit بلاwithout ضررharm
So people rejoice at the death of one who caused harm,
People rejoice in the death of one who caused harm
And grieve for one who did good without harm.
And grieve for one who benefited without harm

Like Nasir al-Din, a star that passed away and told
A full moon fallen from the heavens into pits.
Stories, a full moon that fell from the heavens into a grave

They named him Najm—a star—for his upbringing on a lofty horizon,
They called him a star for his radiance on the horizon
And in radiance he is more splendid than fruit.
And for being the most beautiful fruit on the branch

When will Kafr Matta shine with his countenance,
When does a blasphemer shine? When does one like him rise?
And through him the community's gatherings enjoy evening conversation?
And who enjoys the meadows of life with his vigil?

For the son of Yusuf, the star of glory, I grieve
Does not the loss of a noble, eminent man cause grief?
Is it not sad the loss of the glorious danger?

And after death he still deserves praise

Rather, praise at evening and dawn.
Rather, praise to the names and the young women

He left achievements though he died in this life

That do not cease their effect after the eyes are gone
