نرى الموت للأخيار منا يسارع

وليس لنا مما قضى الله مانع

We see death hastening toward the righteous among us,

And none can shield us from what God has decreed.

أما كل إنسان وإن ملك الغنى

وعمر في الدنيا إلى الله راجع

Is not every person, though he possess wealth

And live long in this world, bound to return to God?

وليس لنا أمن من الموت ساعةً

وإن أبعدته في النفوس المطامع

We have no safety from death for even an hour,

Though hopes make it seem distant within our souls.

وإنا فقدنا الآن من كان سيداً

وكانت له في العالمين منافع

And indeed, we have now lost one who was a leader,

And whose benefits extended throughout the world;

ومن هو للإحسان والفضل والتقى

ونيل العلا والمجد والسعد جامع

One who united benevolence, virtue, and piety

With the attainment of eminence, glory, and good fortune.

كريم سمي السبط اعلى جدوده

حسين له في الخلق والخلق تابع

A generous man, namesake of the Grandson, loftiest of his forebears—

Husayn—whom he follows in form and character.

عسى ان نراه ملحقاً بجنابه

باعلى جنان الخلد فالله رافع

May we see him admitted to his presence,

In the highest gardens of eternity, for it is God who exalts.

بني بيهم صبراً كأن مصابكم

بذا الشهم في كل البرية واقع

Sons of Bayhum, be patient; it is as though your loss

Of this noble-hearted man has befallen all creation.

لذاك ترون الناس في غاية الاسى

عليه وسالت كالغيوث المدامع

Thus you see the people in the deepest sorrow

For him, and tears have poured like showers of rain.

تسلوا بان ابقى له خلفا بكم

بنين تحاكيهم بدور طوالع

Take comfort that He has left him successors in you:

Sons whom rising full moons resemble.

وانا نسلي بالبقاء نفوسنا

وما هي في الاجسام الا ودائع

And we console our souls with continued life,

Yet they are but trusts lodged in bodies.

على أننا نلقى المنى بعد موتنا

باعمالنا الحسنى فهن نوافع

Still, we shall attain our wishes after we die,

Through our good deeds, for they bring benefit.

على اننا نرجو من الله عفوه

لمن خلط الاعمال فالعفو واسع

Yet we hope for God's pardon

For those who mix good deeds with bad, for pardon is vast.

اليس لنا يا قوم اعظم شافع

بامته يوم القيامه شافع

Have we not, my people, the greatest intercessor,

Who will intercede for his community on Resurrection Day?

عليه صلاة الله ثم سلامه

مدى الدهر ما ناح الحمام السواجع

Upon him be God's blessing, then His peace,

For all time, as long as cooing doves lament.
