وخلفتنيand she left me حريقscorched الكبدthe liver موجعهاwith it aching
I bade her farewell, while my heart departed with her.
I bade her farewell, my heart entrusted to her.
She left me behind, my liver ablaze and aching.
And she left me, my liver scorched and aching.
وخلفتنيand she left me بأنto أعتادmake a habit of زورتهاvisiting her
وكلفتنيand she charged me بأنto أرتادseek out مرتعهاher pasture
She left me to make a habit of visiting her,
And she left me to make a habit of visiting her,
and charged me to seek out her haunts.
And charged me to seek out her pasture.
ومنتهىand the utmost كلall آماليmy hopes وغايتهاand their goal
فيin أنthat أرىI see وجههاher face دوماًalways وأسمعهاand I hear her
The utmost reach of all my hopes, their final goal,
And the utmost of all my hopes, their final aim,
is that I may always see her face and hear her voice.
Lies in always seeing her face and hearing her.
وفيand in نواهاher absence أرىI see الأتراحsorrows قاطبةًall together
وإذand when أراهاI see her أريI see الأفراحjoys أجمعهاall of them
In her absence I behold every sorrow there is;
And in her absence I see every sorrow,
whenever I see her, I behold all joys at once.
And when I see her, I see every joy.
لمnot أنسI forget وقفتهاher pausing ليfor me وهيwhile she واعدةًpromising
بأنthat أرىI would see عنafter قليلa brief البينseparation مرجعهاher return
I have not forgotten how she paused for me, bidding farewell,
I have not forgotten her pausing for me, promising
promising that after but a little separation I would see her return;
That I would see her return after a brief separation;
وسيرهاand her walking عنaway from مقاميwhere I stood وهيwhile she لافتةturning back
كظبيةlike a gazelle قدhas لوتturned للخشفtoward the fawn أتلعهاher long neck
nor how she went from where I stood, turning back,
And her walking away from where I stood, turning back,
like a doe bending her slender neck toward her fawn,
Like a gazelle turning her long neck toward the fawn.
ترنواshe gazes إليtoward me بعينيهاwith her eyes وأرمتهاand I watch her (uncertain reading)
ومدمعيand my tears قدhave حكىmirrored فيon الخدthe cheek مدمعهاher tears
gazing toward me with her eyes and with her silence,
She gazes at me with her eyes, and I watch her [uncertain reading].
while the tears on my cheek mirrored the tears in hers.
And my tears upon my cheek mirrored hers.

God be praised for the age’s choicest wine, so surpassingly fair!
God be praised for the age's peerless, choicest wine!
Glory be to Him who fashioned her as the very essence of grace.
Glory to Him who fashioned her, the pure essence of grace!
فإنfor if تجلتshe appears رأيتI see النورlight يقدمهاgoing before her
وإنand if تولتshe turns away رأيتI see النورlight أتبعهاfollowing her
When she appears, I see the light go on before her;
For if she appears, I see light go before her;
when she turns away, I see the light follow her.
And if she turns away, I see light follow her.
