يهنيكmay it gladden you ماwhat زادَتhave added الأَيامُthe days فيto عَدَدِكyour number
مِنof فِلذَةٍa piece بَرزتcame forth لِلسَّعدfor good fortune فيin كَبدِكyour liver
May what the days have added to your number bring you joy:
I congratulate you, the days have not increased your number
A piece of your liver, come forth to bring good fortune.
From a rib that emerged for good fortune in your midst
كَأَنَّماas though الدَّهرُTime دَهرٌa time كانَhad been مُكتئِباًdejected
مِنbecause of اِنفِرادكyour solitude حَتَّىuntil زادَit added فيto عددِكyour number
As though Time itself had been dejected
As if time itself was depressed
By your solitude, until it added to your number.
At your isolation until it increased your number
لاmay … not خلفتكleave you behind اللَّياليthe nights تَحتَbeneath ظلshadow رَدىًdeath
حَتّىuntil تَرىyou see وَلداًa son قَدalready شَبَّgrew to manhood مِنfrom ولدِكyour son
May the nights not leave you beneath death’s shadow
The nights did not let you down beneath the shade of shelter
Until you see a son of your son grown to manhood.
Until you see a son grown from your son
