لاno شُكرَthanks عِنديwith me لِلحَبيبِfor the beloved الهاجِرِthe abandoning one
بَلrather جُلُّmost of شُكريmy thanks لِلخَيالfor the apparition الزائِرِthe visitor
I have no thanks for the beloved who abandons me;
I have no thanks for the absent beloved
Rather, most of my thanks go to the visiting apparition.
Rather, all my thanks are for the visiting apparition
فَكَأنَّهُfor it is as though he يَخشىfears العُيونَthe eyes نَهارَهُduring his day
فَيزورنيso he visits me تَحتَbeneath الظَّلامِthe darkness الساتِرِthat conceals
For he seems to fear eyes by day,
As if he fears the eyes in daylight
So he visits me beneath the concealing darkness.
So he visits me under the concealing darkness
نَوميmy sleep يُريهِshows him لِناظِريto my eye فَكأنَّهُso it is as though he

My sleep shows him to my eye, as though he
My sleep shows him to my eyes, as if
Had already hidden himself within my eye before sleep.
Before sleep, he hid inside my eyes
