قِفُواStop تَشهدُواwitness بَثِّيmy anguish وَإِنكارand the disapproval of لائِميmy censurer
قِفُوا تَشهدُوا بَثِّي وَإِنكار لائِمي
عَليَّagainst me بُكائيmy weeping فيamong الرّسومthe traces الطَّواسِمِeffaced
عَليَّ بُكائي في الرّسوم الطَّواسِمِ
Stand, and witness my outpoured grief—and my reproacher’s censure
Stop and witness my anguish and my censurer’s disapproval
of me for weeping over the effaced traces of the camp.

أَيأمنُDoes he feel safe أَنthat يَعدوhe escapes حَريقَthe blaze of تَنفسيmy sighing
أَيأمنُ أَن يَعدو حَريقَ تَنفسي
وَإِلاor else غَريقاًdrowned فيin الدُّموعthe tears السَّواجِمِstreaming
وَإِلا غَريقاً في الدُّموع السَّواجِمِ
Does he think himself safe from the blaze of my sighs’ assault—

بُكائيَ فَليفزَع للومِ الحَمائِمِ
Here is the grove-dove: its cooing bewails

Once alone, my eye was emptied of its sleep;
