And indeed I avert my gaze from you in reverence,

And for fear my glances might harm your cheeks.

And were I to let my eye behold

Your radiance, my tears would stand in its way.

I regarded the ill-wishers' talebearers as outsiders,

Yet my tears are numbered among my own talebearers.

You claimed that I had turned away from you and was not

Troubling you with my anguish and my regrets.

And am I anything but one seeking my death,

If I turn away from the one in whose hands my death lies?
