يُخيَّلنَthey are imagined مِنof حرِّpure اللجينِthe silver مَدَاهناointment vessels
يُخيَّلنَ مِن حرِّ اللجينِ مَدَاهنا
As though the tears were rosewater upon faces
The tears are like rosewater on faces,
That seem like ointment vessels of pure silver.
You'd think from the heat of parting they were melting.
كَأنas though قَدalready خَشينَthey (feminine) feared النَّكثَthe breach of faith فيin الحُبِّlove بَعدَهُمafter them
كَأن قَد خَشينَ النَّكثَ في الحُبِّ بَعدَهُم
عَلَيناagainst us فَأَعطَيناso we gave القُلوبَthe hearts رَهائِناpledges
عَلَينا فَأَعطَينا القُلوبَ رَهائِنا
As though they had feared a breach of faith in love after their departure
It's as though they feared betrayal in love after them
Against us; so we gave our hearts as pledges.
So they gave us their hearts as hostages.
