عَلى ورِقٍ إِن يَلقَ لَحظاً تَعسجدا
And two temple-locks, like two letters nūn, dark as night, shaped like scorpions
My two cheeks like two N's like the night scorpion
Upon silver that, if it meets a glance, turns to gold.
On a leaf, if it sees for a moment, it kneels humbly
وَشعرٍand hair لَوif أَنَّthat اللَّيلَthe night يُكسىis clothed in سَوادهُits blackness

لِسارٍfor a night traveler وَبَدرُand the full moon التمِّfullness فيin اللَّيلِthe night ماnot اِهتَدىhe found his way
لِسارٍ وَبَدرُ التمِّ في اللَّيلِ ما اِهتَدى
And hair—if night were clothed in its blackness,
And hair, if the night covers its darkness with it
A night traveler would not find his way, even with the full moon in the night.
For one who travels by night, the full moon in the night will not give guidance
