سُرِقنَthey were stolen مِنfrom الأَحبابِthe beloved ones للمتشوّقِfor the yearning one
And in fresh roses and daisies lie beauties
The rosebuds tender, the narcissi fair
Stolen from beloved ones for the yearning lover:
Stolen from loved ones for yearners to wear
خُدودُcheeks عذارىmaidens لَوif تقصَّىwithdrew حياؤُهاtheir shyness

Maidens’ cheeks, if their shyness were gone,
Maidens' cheeks, did bashfulness not them screen
And houris’ mouths, if they would consent to speak.
Lips of houris, did speech not their ruby gleam
