دَعوتُ فَلَم أُمنَح إِجابة يوشعِ
And when I saw the sun set at our parting,
When I saw the sun setting behind the bluffs
I prayed, but was not granted the answer Joshua received.
I called out but was granted no answer, Joshua
كَأَنَّas though النَّوىseparation قَدhad أُوجِعَتbeen pained باجتماعِناby our coming together
كَأَنَّ النَّوى قَد أُوجِعَت باجتماعِنا
فَبنَّاso we parted فَنالَتand so it obtained بُرءَهاits cure مِنfrom تَوَجُّعيmy suffering
فَبنَّا فَنالَت بُرءَها مِن تَوَجُّعي
As though separation had been pained by our coming together,
As if the bluffs had been pained by our gathering
We parted, and so it found its cure in my suffering.
So we built and it found its cure from my ache
