مَضَتwent away بِفُؤاديwith my heart بَينَamong أَحشائِهِits entrails النَّوىseparation
مَضَت بِفُؤادي بَينَ أَحشائِهِ النَّوى
فَهُنَّso they خَلاءٌempty بَعدَهُafter it كَالمَعالِمِlike ruins
فَهُنَّ خَلاءٌ بَعدَهُ كَالمَعالِمِ
Separation carried off my heart from among its entrails;
My heart is torn, for the beloved has gone,
So they lie empty in its absence, like ruins.
Leaving my soul in ruins, lost and forlorn.
كَأَنَّas though النَّوىseparation لَيثٌa lion أُصِيبَwas stricken بِأَشبُلٍby the loss of cubs
كَأَنَّ النَّوى لَيثٌ أُصِيبَ بِأَشبُلٍ
رَأَىsaw ثَارهthe object of its vengeance بَينَbetween الحشاthe entrails وَالحَيازِمِand the ribs
رَأَى ثَاره بَينَ الحشا وَالحَيازِمِ
As though separation were a lion bereaved of its cubs,
As if a lion was struck down in its prime,
That saw the object of its vengeance between the entrails and the ribs.
Its blood spilled over the stones of our time.
