قَد عَلتها حُمرَةٌ مُكتَسَبَه
O cheeks of the houris, as they are made to blush,
O cheeks of the fair maidens in their shyness
An acquired redness has spread over them.
Blushing crimson, though unbidden, it dyes them
اِغتَربناwe went away from home أَنتِyou (feminine) منfrom بَجّانَةٍBajjana

وَأَنا مُغتَرِبٌ مِن قُرطُبَه
We are far from home—you from Bajjana,
We are both expatriates, you from Bejaya
And I, a stranger from Cordoba.
I from Cordoba, though now side by side

بِالنَّدى أَموالُهُم مُنتَهَبَه
And we met among true-hearted brothers,
With brethren we gather, good company all
Their wealth plundered by generosity.
Their wealth as the dew, though all gone it be

A band that, if asked about its lineage,
A tribe, if you ask whence they hail
Traces its descent to its Arqam.
To their marks, their lineage, they point for reply

Indeed, my kissing you before them
Before them should my lips touch yours
Is no unusual deed.
No strange deed it would be, nothing to shy from

قَبَّل المُغتَرِبُ المُغتَرِبَه
Because we share being far from home,
For exiles to meet thus in exile bound
The man far from home kissed the woman far from home.
The exile may kiss the exile he's found
