أبناء باخوس غدوا في لوعة

إذ يوسف ذاك الفتى هجر الحمى

The sons of Bakhus fell into anguish,

The sons of Bacchus were grieved

When Yusuf, that young man, left his homeland.

When Joseph that young man left the dwelling

شهم امامٌ بل اديب فاضلٌ

شهم امامٌ بل اديب فاضلٌ

فبفضله شرقاً وغربا رَنما

فبفضله شرقاً وغربا رَنما

A noble man, a leader—indeed, a virtuous man of letters;

A courageous leader, rather a noble scholar

So his excellence was sung in East and West.

Through his virtues the East and West sang his praises

لبنانَ اولى عزةً وتفاخراً

لبنانَ اولى عزةً وتفاخراً

فلقومه منهُ نواه كلَّما

فلقومه منهُ نواه كلَّما

To Lebanon he gave honor and pride;

Lebanon was first in pride and glory

So separation from him wounded his people.

For his people, he wished the best whenever

لفقده امسى اخو فارس

لفقده امسى اخو فارس

بتفجعٍ واسال دمعاً عندما

بتفجعٍ واسال دمعاً عندما

At his loss, Faris's brother became

For his loss, his brother the knight

Grief-stricken, and shed blood-red tears.

Became distraught and shed tears when

كفُّوا البكا ثمَّ الاسى يا آله

كفُّوا البكا ثمَّ الاسى يا آله

اذ روحهُ لالهه قد سلَّما

Cease weeping, then sorrow, O his family,

Cease your crying, then sorrow O his family

For he has surrendered his soul to his God.

For his soul to his God he has surrendered

فحباهُ ملكاً في السماء مؤبداً

فحباهُ ملكاً في السماء مؤبداً

متمتعاً فيما عليهِ انعما

متمتعاً فيما عليهِ انعما

So He granted him an everlasting kingdom in heaven,

So He gifted him eternal kingdom in heaven

Enjoying what He bestowed upon him.

To enjoy what he has blessed him with

سعداً ومجداً ارخوا حاوٍ بها

سعداً ومجداً ارخوا حاوٍ بها

بالعزَ اضحى وارثاً ملك

بالعزَ اضحى وارثاً ملك

He possesses joy and glory therein—record the date:

Happiness and glory adorn his resting place

In honor he became heir to a kingdom.

With might he became the heir of a king
