مُنيَتيmy desire طيبةTayba لاnot أَبغيI seek سواهاother than her
مُنيَتي طيبة لا أَبغي سواها
فَبِهاfor in her الحسنُbeauty لِعمريby my life قدindeed تَناهىreached its utmost
فَبِها الحسنُ لِعمري قد تَناهى
My desire is Tayba; I seek none but her.
My death will be good, I want no other
For in her, by my life, beauty has reached its utmost.
With it, beauty for my life has reached its peak
كيفَhow أَنساهاI forget her وأَسلوand grow indifferent to حبّهاlove for her
كيفَ أَنساها وأَسلو حبّها
بَعدماafter قَدindeed خالَطmingled with الروحَthe soul هواهاpassion for her
بَعدما قَد خالَط الروحَ هواها
How could I forget her and cease to love her,
How can I forget it and move on from its love
After love for her has mingled with my soul?
After it has mingled with my soul's passion
لاnot أُطيلُI prolong الشرحthe explanation أقصىthe utmost of مُنيتيmy desire
لا أُطيلُ الشرح أقصى مُنيتي
أَنthat أَراهاI see her وأُرىand I am seen تحتbeneath ثراهاher soil
أَن أَراها وأُرى تحت ثراها
I shall not prolong the explanation; my greatest wish
I won't elaborate, my utmost wish
Is to see her and be laid beneath her soil.
Is to see it and be under its soil
لَوif تأمّلناwe contemplated بحقٍّtruly أَرضهاher earth
لَو تأمّلنا بحقٍّ أَرضها
لَرأيناهاwe would see it جِباهاًforeheads وشفاهاand lips
لَرأيناها جِباهاً وشفاها
Were we truly to contemplate her earth,
If we contemplated its land in truth
We would see it as foreheads and lips.
We'd see it as brows and lips
فاقتِshe surpassed الدنياthe world سناءًin glory وسناًand radiance
فاقتِ الدنيا سناءً وسناً
بحبيبِthrough the beloved of اللَّهGod خيرِthe best of الخلقcreation طهَTa-Ha
بحبيبِ اللَّه خيرِ الخلق طهَ
She surpassed the world in glory and radiance,
The world gained glory and years
Through God's beloved, the best of creation, Ta-Ha,
Through God's beloved, the best of people, Taha
صاحبpossessor of المعراجِthe Ascension سرّthe secret of اللَّهGod فيin
صاحب المعراجِ سرّ اللَّه في
خلقهِHis creation أعلىhighest of الورىall beings قدراًin rank وجاهاand honor
خلقهِ أعلى الورى قدراً وجاها
He of the Ascension, God's secret in
The companion of the Ascension, God's secret in
His creation, highest of all beings in rank and honor.
His creation, highest of humans in rank and status
خَصّهsingled him out اللَّهGod بأعلىwith the highest رتبةٍstation
خَصّه اللَّه بأعلى رتبةٍ
خفضَbrought low الخلقَcreation جميعاًall together فعلاهاso he rose to it
خفضَ الخلقَ جميعاً فعلاها
God singled him out for the highest station;
God granted him the highest position
He brought all creation low, so he rose to that station.
And lowered all others under him
قَدindeed رَوىhe related عنfrom ذاتِthe essence of مولاهُhis Lord الهدىguidance
قَد رَوى عن ذاتِ مولاهُ الهدى
وَبلاand without كيفٍmodality ولاnor كمّquantity رآهاhe saw it
وَبلا كيفٍ ولا كمّ رآها
He conveyed guidance from his Lord's very Essence,
He narrated from his Lord's essence guidance
And he beheld it without modality or measure.
And saw it without how or how much
رِحلةٌa journey نالَhe attained بهاthrough it كلّall المنىwishes
رِحلةٌ نالَ بها كلّ المنى
وبهِand through him الأفلاكُthe celestial spheres قَدindeed نالتattained مناهاtheir wishes
وبهِ الأفلاكُ قَد نالت مناها
A journey through which he attained all he wished,
A journey in which he attained all wishes
And through him the celestial spheres attained their wishes.
And through it the heavens attained their wishes
قدرةُthe power of الرحمنِthe Most Merciful لاno حدّlimit لهاto it
قدرةُ الرحمنِ لا حدّ لها
مُنتهىthe utmost of كلّevery كمالٍperfection مُبتداهاits beginning
مُنتهى كلّ كمالٍ مُبتداها
The Most Merciful's power has no limit;
The Power of the Merciful has no limit
The summit of all perfection is its beginning.
The origin of all perfection is its endpoint
