لكِto you ياO طيبةٌTaybah علَيناupon us عهودُpledges
لكِ يا طيبةٌ علَينا عهودُ
ذِكرُهاtheir memory فيin القلوبthe hearts غضٌّfresh جديدُnew
ذِكرُها في القلوب غضٌّ جديدُ
To you, O Taybah, we owe pledges;
their memory stays fresh and new in our hearts.
ماnot رَأيناكِwe have seen you بالعيونِwith the eyes ولَكنbut
ما رَأيناكِ بالعيونِ ولَكن
بقلوبٍwith hearts فيهاin them الهوىlove لاdoes not يبيدُperish
بقلوبٍ فيها الهوى لا يبيدُ
We have not seen you with our eyes, but
with hearts in which love never dies.
أَخذَexacted البيعةَthe pledge of allegiance الغرامُardent love عليناfrom us
أَخذَ البيعةَ الغرامُ علينا
لكِto you أنّthat الجمالَbeauty فيكin you فريدُpeerless
لكِ أنّ الجمالَ فيك فريدُ
Love has exacted our pledge of allegiance
to you, for the beauty in you is peerless.
مَنwhoever يكُنmay be شاهداًa witness بفضلٍto merit فإنّيthen indeed I
مَن يكُن شاهداً بفضلٍ فإنّي
لكِfor you بالفضلِto merit والكمالِand perfection شهيدُa witness
لكِ بالفضلِ والكمالِ شهيدُ
If anyone bears witness to merit, then I
bear witness to your merit and perfection.
سُدتِyou surpassed كلَّevery البلادِland أَهلاًin inhabitants وفضلاًand in excellence
سُدتِ كلَّ البلادِ أَهلاً وفضلاً
وَبِسكّانهاand through their inhabitants الديارُlands تسودُgain eminence
وَبِسكّانها الديارُ تسودُ
You have surpassed every land in people and excellence;
and lands gain eminence through their inhabitants.
حلَّdwelt خيرُthe best الأنامِof creation فيكin you وجاءَand came النthe (start of 'the victory')
حلَّ خيرُ الأنامِ فيك وجاءَ الن
نَصرvictory لِلدينfor the faith منكfrom you والتأييدُand support
نَصر لِلدين منك والتأييدُ
The best of creation dwelt in you, and there came
from you victory and support for the faith.
ليتَwould that شِعريmy knowing هلwhether تَقبلينيyou will accept me بشعريwith my poetry
ليتَ شِعري هل تَقبليني بشعري
فيكِabout you أُبديهِI express it مُنشداًreciting وأعيدُand I repeat
فيكِ أُبديهِ مُنشداً وأعيدُ
I wonder: will you receive me with my verse
about you, which I chant aloud and repeat?
أَمدحُI praise المُصطفىthe Chosen One هناكَthere وأَتلوand I recite
أَمدحُ المُصطفى هناكَ وأَتلو
هُit (my verse) كِفاحاًface to face يجودhe gives generously ليto me فأجيدُso I excel
هُ كِفاحاً يجود لي فأجيدُ
I praise the Chosen One there, and recite
it face to face; he gives generously to me, so I excel.
سيّدmaster العالمينَof the worlds طرّاًall without exception تساوىstood equal
سيّد العالمينَ طرّاً تساوى
تحتَbeneath علياهُhis exalted rank سيّدٌa master ومسودُand a subject
تحتَ علياهُ سيّدٌ ومسودُ
Master of all the worlds—equal stand
beneath his exalted rank both master and subject.
سادَهis master over him اللَّهGod وحدهُhe alone فهوَso he is عبservant (first part)
سادَه اللَّه وحدهُ فهوَ عب
دُservant (final part) اللَّهof God حقّاًtruly لهto him الأنامcreated beings عبيدُservants
دُ اللَّه حقّاً له الأنام عبيدُ
God alone is his master; thus he is a servant
of God in truth; all beings are his servants.
