1. خيرُ البلاد علاً وعيشا

    ما كانَ لِلمختار ممشى

    The best of lands in glory and life

    are those where the Chosen One walked.

  2. شمسُ الوجودِ محمّد

    رَغماً على أعمى وأعشى

    Muhammad is the sun of existence,

    in defiance of the blind and dim-sighted.

  3. للقدسِ سارَ بليلةٍ

    كانَت بوجهِ الدهرِ نَقشا

    He journeyed to Jerusalem on a night

    that was an inscription on the face of time.

  4. فيها عَلى السبعِ العلا

    حتّى غَدا للعرشِ عرشا

    That night he rose above the seven lofty heavens,

    until he became a throne for the Throne.

  5. وَرَأى الإله مقدّساً

    فَحَباه سرّاً ليس يُفشى

    And he beheld God, the Holy One;

    so He granted him a secret not divulged.

  6. أَولاهُ خمساً حُكمها

    خَمسون هشّ لها وبشّا

    He bestowed on him five, counted as

    fifty; he rejoiced in them and beamed.

  7. وَثَنى العنانَ لمكّةٍ

    فكأنّه لم يعدُ فرشا

    And he turned the rein toward Mecca,

    so it was as though he had not left his bed.

  8. فَذوو البصائرِ صدّقوا

    وَقُلوبُهم لم تحوِ غشّا

    So those with insight believed,

    and their hearts harbored no deceit.

  9. وَغَدا العِدا عن نورهِ

    وَحَديثه عمياً وطُرشا

    And his enemies became—to his light

    and his speech—blind and deaf.

  10. مَعَ قربهِ من ربّهِ

    ما زالَ يَرجوهُ ويَخشى

    Despite his nearness to his Lord,

    he never ceased to hope in Him and fear Him.
