لِطيبةَto Taybah مِيثاقٌa covenant عليَّupon me قديمُancient
لِطيبةَ مِيثاقٌ عليَّ قديمُ
إِذاwhen ذُكرتshe is mentioned يوماًone day لديّin my presence أهيمُI am lost in longing
إِذا ذُكرت يوماً لديّ أهيمُ
An ancient covenant binds me to Taybah.
To Medina I am bound by an ancient pact
If ever she is mentioned before me, I am lost in longing.
Whenever it is mentioned, I yearn
وَماand not ذاكَthat إلّاexcept أنّthat فيهاin her محمّداًMuhammad
وَما ذاكَ إلّا أنّ فيها محمّداً
رسولَthe Messenger الهُدىof guidance روحَthe soul الوجودof existence مقيمُabides
رسولَ الهُدى روحَ الوجود مقيمُ
And that is only because within her Muhammad—
And that is only because Muhammad
The Messenger of guidance, the soul of existence—abides.
The messenger of guidance, the spirit of existence, resides there
هوَhe الشمسُthe sun إلّاexcept أنّthat فيin الكونِthe universe نورهُhis light
هوَ الشمسُ إلّا أنّ في الكونِ نورهُ
يدومُendures وَنورُand the light الشمسof the sun ليسdoes not يدومُendure
يدومُ وَنورُ الشمس ليس يدومُ
He is the sun, except that his light in the universe
He is the sun except that his light in the universe
Endures, while the sun's light does not endure.
Endures, while the sun's light does not endure
هوَhe البحرُthe sea عمّhas encompassed الكائناتِall beings بفضلهِwith his bounty
هوَ البحرُ عمّ الكائناتِ بفضلهِ
بِساحلهِby his shore كلّall الكرامِthe noble تعومُswim
بِساحلهِ كلّ الكرامِ تعومُ
He is the sea; he has embraced all beings with his bounty.
He is the sea, his grace has encompassed all beings
By his shore all the noble swim.
By his coast, all the honorable float
هوَhe الدهرُtime عمّhas encompassed الخلقَcreation شاملُall-embracing حكمهِhis rule
هوَ الدهرُ عمّ الخلقَ شاملُ حكمهِ
وماand not عهدهُhis pledge فيin النائباتcalamities ذميمُblameworthy
وما عهدهُ في النائبات ذميمُ
He is time; his all-embracing rule has encompassed creation.
He is time, his rule encompasses all creation
And his pledge in times of calamity is beyond reproach.
And his era is not despised during tribulations
هوَhe العبدُthe servant عبدُservant of اللَّهGod سيّدmaster of خلقهِHis creation
هوَ العبدُ عبدُ اللَّه سيّد خلقهِ
لهُto him الكونُthe universe عبدٌa servant والزمانand time خدومُa devoted attendant
لهُ الكونُ عبدٌ والزمان خدومُ
He is the servant, God's servant, the master of His creation;
He is the servant, the master of His creation
The universe is his servant, and time his devoted attendant.
For him is the universe a servant, and time a slave
نبيّProphet الهدىof guidance ياO أعظمَgreatest الناسof mankind نائلاًin bounty
نبيّ الهدى يا أعظمَ الناس نائلاً
وَمَنand the one who جودهُhis generosity فيin العالمينthe worlds عميمُall-embracing
وَمَن جودهُ في العالمين عميمُ
Prophet of guidance, O greatest of mankind in bounty,
O prophet of guidance, o greatest of people in attaining
And you whose generosity pervades all worlds,
And whose generosity in both worlds is all-encompassing
وَمَنand the one who هوhe فيin الدارَينboth abodes خيرُthe best وسيلةٍa means of approach
وَمَن هو في الدارَين خيرُ وسيلةٍ
شَفيعٌan intercessor لدىbefore الربِّthe Lord الكريمthe generous كريمُnoble
شَفيعٌ لدى الربِّ الكريم كريمُ
And you who in both abodes are the best means of approach,
And who is the best means in both abodes
A noble intercessor before the generous Lord.
An intercessor with the Generous and Noble Lord
تَدارَكcome to the rescue أَغثنيhelp me فيin أموريmy affairs فإنّنيfor indeed I
تَدارَك أَغثني في أموري فإنّني
عَرَتنيhave assailed me همومٌworries مسُّهنَّtheir touch أليمُpainful
عَرَتني همومٌ مسُّهنَّ أليمُ
Rescue me, help me in my affairs, for I
Relieve my concerns, for worries have afflicted me
Have been beset by worries whose touch is painful.
Distressing and painful worries
وَماand not ذكرَmentioning تَفصيلاتهاtheir details لكَto you لازمٌnecessary
وَما ذكرَ تَفصيلاتها لكَ لازمٌ
فأنتَfor you بأسرارِof the secrets الغيوبِof the unseen عليمُwell aware
فأنتَ بأسرارِ الغيوبِ عليمُ
And recounting their details to you is not necessary,
And it is not necessary to detail them to you
For you know well the secrets of the unseen.
For you know all secrets
