آلف مثواهُ على فراقه
He stood, though he had not yet sought support from his leg.
He rose, unable to stand on his own feet,
Attached to his resting place, despite parting from it.
Accustomed to parting's dwelling place,
كأنّهُas though he فيin الشبحِthe outstretched posture منbecause of وثاقهِhis bonds
كأنّهُ في الشبحِ من وثاقهِ
رأىhe saw حبيباًa beloved همّhe intended باعتناقهto embrace him
رأى حبيباً همّ باعتناقه
As though, stretched out by his bonds,
As if he were bound in apparition -
He had seen a beloved and meant to embrace him.
He saw a lover and yearned to embrace him.
كأنهas though he يضحكlaughs فيin أشداقهthe corners of his mouth
كأنه يضحك في أشداقه
As though he were laughing at the corners of his mouth.
As if laughing through clenched teeth.
