إذا قدّم السلطانُ قوماً على الهوى

إذا قدّم السلطانُ قوماً على الهوى

فإنّكمُ قدّمتمُ للمناقبِ

فإنّكمُ قدّمتمُ للمناقبِ

If the sovereign gives some people precedence out of mere whim,

If the sultan gives some people precedence out of whim,

then surely you have been given precedence for your noble merits.

then you have indeed been given precedence for your virtues.
