إلبس أخاكَ على ما كان من خلُقٍ

إلبس أخاكَ على ما كان من خلُقٍ

واحفظ مودّتَه بالغيبِ ما وصَلا

واحفظ مودّتَه بالغيبِ ما وصَلا

Accept your brother, whatever his character may be;

Dress your brother in the finest of manners

and preserve his friendship in his absence, as long as he maintains the bond.

And keep his affection though you are apart

فأطولُ الناس غمّاً من يريدُ أخاً

فأطولُ الناس غمّاً من يريدُ أخاً

ذا خُلّةٍ لا يرى في ودّهِ خلَلا

ذا خُلّةٍ لا يرى في ودّهِ خلَلا

For he who grieves longest among people is one who seeks a brother

For he who seeks a flawless friend

endowed with friendship, in whose affection he sees no flaw.

Will be the most troubled person at heart
