ولقدand indeed بررتَyou showed kindness to الطالبيةَthe Talibids بعدماafter
ذمّواthey reviled زماناًan age قبلَهاbefore it وزماناand another age
Indeed, you treated the Talibids well, after
And indeed, you showed kindness to the Talibids after
we had blamed you for a time before that—and for another time.
They had reviled one age before that, and another.
ورَددتَand you restored ألفةَaffection هاشمٍHashim فرأيتَهمand so you saw them
بعدafter العداوةthe enmity بينهمbetween them إخواناbrothers
You restored Hashim’s fellowship, and saw them
And you restored Hashim's bonds of affection, and saw them,
brothers among themselves after their enmity.
After the enmity between them, as brothers.
أمّنتَyou made safe ليلهمُtheir night وجدتَand you were generous عليهمُto them
حتىuntil نسواthey forgot الأحقادthe rancors والأضغاناand the grudges
You made their night secure and were bountiful to them,
You made their night secure and were generous to them,
until they forgot their resentments and rancors.
Until they forgot their rancors and grudges.
لوif يعلمُknew الأسلافُthe forebears كيفhow بررتهمyou treated them kindly
لرأوكَthey would surely see you أثقلthe weightiest منthose who بهاin it ميزاناin the balance
Had the forefathers known how kindly you treated them,
If the forebears knew how kindly you had treated them,
they would have seen you outweigh everyone on earth in the scales.
They would deem you the weightiest in the balance among all who dwell there.
