آبَ هَذا الهَمُّ فَاِكتَنَعا
وَأَتَرَّand cut off النَومَsleep فَاِمتَنَعاso it stayed away
وَأَتَرَّ النَومَ فَاِمتَنَعا
This sorrow returned, then closed in,
This anxiety has made me cease to eat,
And drove sleep away, so it would not come.
And disrupted my sleep completely.

Sitting, I keep watch over the stars;
Sitting watching the stars, waiting for one to rise,
And whenever a star rises,
But when a planet appeared,
صارَmoved on حَتّىuntil أَنَّنيthat I لاnot أَرىsee

أَنَّهُ بِالغَورِ قَد وَقَعا
It moves on, until I cannot see
I can hardly see,
That it has fallen into the lowland.
That it has set in the west.

And she has at al-Matirun, when
It has rained so much,
The ants have eaten what they gathered,
The ants have eaten their stored grains.

Fruit to gather—until, when she spends the spring,
So old its dwellings are decaying,
She recalls churches in Jillaq,
It recalls a long gone sale.

Under domes around a village, among which
In domes around Daskara,
The olives have already ripened.
Olive trees grow in abundance.
