ياO نِساءَwomen الحَيِّthe quarter عُدنَنِيَهvisit me
حَجَبواthey hid عَنّيfrom me مُعَذِّبِيَهmy tormentor
O women of the quarter, come visit me.
O women of the neighborhood, return to me
They have hidden my tormentor from me.
My tormentors have cut me off from you
رَشَأٌa young gazelle كَالبَدرِlike the full moon طَلعَتُهُhis countenance
لَوif سَقانيhe gave me to drink سُمَّpoison ساعَتِيَهmy hour
A young gazelle, his countenance like the full moon.
A face like the rising moon is his appearance
Were he to give me the poison of my hour to drink,
If he would give me poison for one hour
لَمnot أَقُلI would say إِنّيthat I سَكِرتُI became drunk وَلاnor
إِنَّthat ماwhat أَهواهُI adore it مِلَّتِيَهmy creed
I would not say that I was drunk, nor
I would not say that I was drunk, nor
That what I adore is my creed.
Would I say that what I desire is my religion

قَدhas مَلاfilled ناراًfire حُشاشَتِيَهmy last spark of life
Who will shield me from love of a moon
Who will save me from love of a moon
That has filled my last spark of life with fire?
Who has filled my heart with fire?
فَهوَfor he is حَجّيmy pilgrimage وَهوَand he is مُعتَمَريmy lesser pilgrimage

For he is my pilgrimage and my lesser pilgrimage,
He is my pilgrimage, he is my lesser pilgrimage
And he is my religious duty and my tradition,
He is my religious duty, he is my tradition
وَهوَand he is دينيmy faith وَهوَand he is آخِرَتيmy hereafter

And he is my faith and my hereafter,
He is my religion, he is my hereafter
And he is my fire and my paradise.
He is my hellfire, and he is my paradise

My head wound comes from the bone of my knowledge,
My nation knows from my great passion
And my wounds come from my own limbs.
And my wounds are from my own limbs
