أَراكَI see you طَروباًenraptured ذاpossessed of شَجاًsorrow وَتَرَنُّمٍand melodious singing
أَراكَ طَروباً ذا شَجاً وَتَرَنُّمٍ
تَطوفُyou wander بِأَذيالِalong the hems of السِجافِthe curtain المُخَيِّمِspread as a canopy
تَطوفُ بِأَذيالِ السِجافِ المُخَيِّمِ
I see you enraptured, full of sorrow and song.
I see you wandering, rapt and singing your verses,
You wander along the hems of the curtain spread as a canopy.
Strolling in the shadow of the gathering dusk.
أَصابَكَhas struck you عِشقٌlove أَمor بُليتَyou were afflicted بِنَظرَةٍby a glance
أَصابَكَ عِشقٌ أَم بُليتَ بِنَظرَةٍ
فَماfor … not هَذهِthis إِلّاexcept سَجِيَّةُthe nature of مُغرَمِone consumed by love
فَما هَذهِ إِلّا سَجِيَّةُ مُغرَمِ
Has love struck you, or have you been afflicted by a glance?
Have you been struck by love or wasted by a glance?
For this is nothing but the nature of one consumed by love.
This affliction is surely that of one impassioned.
