أَلا يا صاحِ لِلعَجَبِ

أَلا يا صاحِ لِلعَجَبِ

دَعَوتُكِ ثُمَّ لَم تُجِبِ

دَعَوتُكِ ثُمَّ لَم تُجِبِ

Ah, my friend, how strange!

Oh marveler, I called you but you did not answer

I invited you, then you did not answer,

To the gathering of delight and joy

إِلى القَيناتِ وَاللَذّا

إِلى القَيناتِ وَاللَذّا

تِ وَالصَهباءِ وَالطَرَبِ

تِ وَالصَهباءِ وَالطَرَبِ

To the singing girls and the plea-

And to reddened wine and enchantment

-sures, and tawny wine and revelry,

And to a valley laden with flowers

وَباطِيَةٍ مُكَلَّلَةٍ

وَباطِيَةٍ مُكَلَّلَةٍ

عَلَيها سادَةُ العَرَبِ

عَلَيها سادَةُ العَرَبِ

And a garlanded wine bowl,

Where the chiefs of the Arabs resided

Around which are the nobles of the Arabs;

Among them is she who melted your heart but did not repent

وَفيهِنَّ الَّتي تَبَلَت

وَفيهِنَّ الَّتي تَبَلَت

فُؤادَكَ ثُمَّ لَم تَتُبِ

فُؤادَكَ ثُمَّ لَم تَتُبِ

And among them is she who ravaged

Your heart; then you did not repent.
