وَجاءَتand came بِهاwith her دُهمُthe black ones البِغالِof the mules وَشُهبُهاand their gray ones
وَجاءَت بِها دُهمُ البِغالِ وَشُهبُها
مُسَيَّرَةًclad in striped cloth فيin جَوفِthe interior of قَرٍّa litter مُسَيَّرِstriped
مُسَيَّرَةً في جَوفِ قَرٍّ مُسَيَّرِ
And the mules, black and gray, brought her,
With them at dusk came the mule litters
Clad in stripes within a striped litter,
Moving within an ancient burial mound
مُقابِلَةًlinked by ancestry بَينَbetween النَبِيِّthe Prophet مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
مُقابِلَةً بَينَ النَبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ
وَبَينَand between عَلِيٍّAli وَالجَوادِand the generous one اِبنُson of جَعفَرِJa‘far
وَبَينَ عَلِيٍّ وَالجَوادِ اِبنُ جَعفَرِ
Linked by ancestry to the Prophet Muhammad
Between Prophet Muhammad
And to Ali and the generous son of Ja‘far,
And Ali and Al-Jawad son of Ja'far
مُنافِيَّةًa Manafite woman غَرّاءُradiant جادَتbestowed generously بِوُدِّهاwith her love
مُنافِيَّةً غَرّاءُ جادَت بِوُدِّها
لِعَبدِto an ‘Abd- مَنافِيٍّManafite أَغَرَّradiant مُشَهَّرِrenowned
لِعَبدِ مَنافِيٍّ أَغَرَّ مُشَهَّرِ
A radiant woman of ‘Abd Manaf’s line bestowed her love
The gray mule obstinately carried with her love
On a radiant, renowned ‘Abd-Manafite.
