وَإِنand even if كانَhe is شَهماًgallant فيamong العَشيرَةِthe clan أَروَعاimposing
وَإِن كانَ شَهماً في العَشيرَةِ أَروَعا
The young man falls prey to something other than humankind,
The young man aspires beyond others’ gaze—
Even if he is gallant and imposing among his clan.
Though of noble stock, still nobler yearns to raise.
وَكُلُّand every جَديدٍnew thing سَوفَwill يَخلُقُgrow worn حُسنهُits beauty
وَكُلُّ جَديدٍ سَوفَ يَخلُقُ حُسنهُ

وَما لَم يُوَدَّع مِثلَ ما كانَ وَدَّعا
And every new thing's beauty will wear away;
All things novel forge their beauty by degrees;
And what has not yet been bid farewell to is like what he has already bid farewell to.
Farewells once said, like things now left, the most heart weighs.
