At evening this heart is stricken with love for Asmāʾ.

Whenever I say it has sobered, longing visits it anew.

When evening comes and she does not speak to me, I am like

one with a desire, seeking what cannot be found.

    فَلا أَمَلُّ وَلا تُوفي المَواعيدا

    I pursue a promise from her, but she breaks her word to me;

yet I do not tire, nor does she keep her promises.

You were named after a man whose character you resemble

in justice and bounty—Solomon, son of David.

How praiseworthy a king he was among the people of the past!

And you are now praised among those who remain.

People cannot but praise a king

who has shown them forbearance and generosity in their affairs.
