Tell al-Bawadir and al-Ahlaf: you have no

say when counsel is sought; your affairs are divided.

Do not fasten your feathers in the people's wing,

lest they make you tail-feathers sprouting down.

You find no fault in me except my reproach,

when I take issue with your conduct.

As though a jealous, quarrelsome woman of al-Hira

had spent the night cutting the rods away from beneath him.
