A red she-camel, high of hump, as though she were
The red-haired she-camel, her howdah high upon her,
a he-camel laden for travel with its owners' howdah.
Is like a ship where folk their goods have stored.

His right hand generously bestowed her at farewell;
When we rode forth she stretched her neck in yearning
both of Umar's hands that morning were right hands.
Toward the right hand of morning time out-poured.

By God, none has given her like on such an occasion
By God, none ever gave the like of her,
except one noble in character, or a madman.
Save noble prince or passionate love-lorn.
