كَيفَhow العَزاءُsolace وَأَنتِand you أَومَقُdearest مَنwhoever مَشىwalked
وَالنَفسُand the soul مولَعَةٌenamored وَدارُكِand your home نائِيَهfar away
How can there be solace when you are the dearest of all who walk?
How can I be consoled when you are farther than one who walked away
And my soul is enamored, while your home is far away.
And my soul is inflamed while your home is distant
بِيَدَيكِin your two hands قَتليmy death إِنif أَرَدتِyou desired مَنيَّتيmy demise
وَشِفاءُand the healing نَفسيmy soul إِنif أَرَدتِyou desired شِفائِيَهmy recovery
In your hands is my death, if you desire my demise,
In your hands is my death if you want my demise
And my soul’s healing, if you desire my recovery.
And the healing of my soul if you want my recovery
وَلَقَدand indeed عَرَفتُI have known فَماyet not أَوَيتُI showed pity لِمُدنِفٍto a languishing sufferer
ماnot النَفسُthe soul عَنكِof you وَإِنand even though نَأَيتُI went far away بِسالِيَهat all forgetful
I have indeed known, yet have not pitied a languishing sufferer.
And I have known so I do not blame the slanderer
My soul has not forgotten you, even though I have gone far away.
The soul cannot be apart from you even if I go far away
