أَلا رُبَّ راجٍ حاجَةً لا يَنالُها

أَلا رُبَّ راجٍ حاجَةً لا يَنالُها

وَآخَرَ قَد تَقضي لَهُ وَهوَ جالِسُ

وَآخَرَ قَد تَقضي لَهُ وَهوَ جالِسُ

Lo, many a man hopes for something he never attains,

Oh many a petitioner of a need unsatisfied

while another may have it fulfilled for him as he sits.

While another has it fulfilled as he sits!

يَروحُ لَها هَذا وَتَقضي لِغَيرِهِ

يَروحُ لَها هَذا وَتَقضي لِغَيرِهِ

فَتَأتي الَّذي تَقضي لَهُ وَهوَ آيِسُ

فَتَأتي الَّذي تَقضي لَهُ وَهوَ آيِسُ

This man sets out in pursuit of it, yet it is fulfilled for another;

This one goes disappointed though it is fulfilled for another,

so it comes to the one for whom it is fulfilled, though he has lost hope.

And comes fulfilled to him who had despaired of it.

إِذا أَرسَلوني عِندَ تَقديرِ حاجَةٍ

إِذا أَرسَلوني عِندَ تَقديرِ حاجَةٍ

أُمارِسُ فيها كُنتُ نِعمَ المُمارِسُ

أُمارِسُ فيها كُنتُ نِعمَ المُمارِسُ

When they send me as some need is being assessed,

Whenever I am sent to accomplish someone's need,

I tackle it and prove excellent at the task.

I am excellent at getting it done.

وَنَفعِيَ نَفعُ الموسِرينَ وَإِنَّما

وَنَفعِيَ نَفعُ الموسِرينَ وَإِنَّما

سَوامي سَوامُ المُقتِرينَ المَفالِسُ

سَوامي سَوامُ المُقتِرينَ المَفالِسُ

And the help I give is the help of the wealthy, yet

And my usefulness is as great to the wealthy

my grazing herds are only those of the poor and penniless.

As the brokerage of the bankrupt and insolvent.
