ياO أُمَّmother of عَمروٍʿAmr أَنجِزيfulfill المَوعوداwhat was promised
يا أُمَّ عَمروٍ أَنجِزي المَوعودا
وَاِرعَيand honor بِذاكَthereby أَمانَةًa trust وَعُهوداand pledges
وَاِرعَي بِذاكَ أَمانَةً وَعُهودا
O Umm ʿAmr, fulfill what was promised,
O mother of Amr fulfill the promise
And thereby honor a trust and pledges.
And in doing so be faithful and true to your word
وَلَقَدand indeed طَرَقتُI visited كِلابَdogs أَهلِكِyour family بِالضُحىin the forenoon
وَلَقَد طَرَقتُ كِلابَ أَهلِكِ بِالضُحى
حَتّىuntil تَرَكنَthey gave up عُقورَهُنَّtheir biting رُقوداlying asleep
حَتّى تَرَكنَ عُقورَهُنَّ رُقودا
And indeed, I visited your family's dogs in the forenoon,
Many times have I visited your tribe at dawn
Until they gave up biting and lay at rest,
Until I left their sleeping quarters desolate
يَضرِبنَthey wag بِالأَذنابِwith their tails مِنfrom فَرَحٍjoy بِناat us
يَضرِبنَ بِالأَذنابِ مِن فَرَحٍ بِنا
مُتَوَسِّداتٍpillowing themselves on أَذرُعاًforelegs وَخُدوداand cheeks
مُتَوَسِّداتٍ أَذرُعاً وَخُدودا
Wagging their tails in delight at us,
They wag their tails in joy at my coming
Pillowing themselves on forelegs and cheeks.
Curling up, leaning on elbows and cheeks
