ياO أيهاyou (vocative) السائليthe one asking me لأخبِرَهُso I may inform him
يا أيها السائلي لأخبِرَهُ
عمّنabout those بصنعاءَin Sana'a منamong ذويpossessors of الحَسبِnoble standing
عمّن بصنعاءَ من ذوي الحَسبِ
O you who ask me to tell you
O questioner, so I may tell him
about those in Sana'a of noble standing:
Of those in Sana'a of noble lineage
حمِيرُHimyar ساداتُهاits lords تُقرacknowledge لهاto it
حمِيرُ ساداتُها تُقر لها
بالفَضلِas superior طُرأall together جَحاجحُgreat chieftains العَربِthe Arabs
بالفَضلِ طُرأ جَحاجحُ العَربِ
Himyar are its lords; they are acknowledged
The donkeys of its chieftains admit
as superior by all the great chieftains of the Arabs.
The superiority of the outstanding Arabs
فإنَّfor indeed منamong خيرِهمtheir best وأفضلهِمand their noblest
فإنَّ من خيرِهم وأفضلهِم
أوor خيَرِهمtheir best بتَّهabsolutely أبوAbu (father of) كربِKarib
أو خيَرِهم بتَّه أبو كربِ
For among their best and noblest,
For of their best and most virtuous
or rather their very best, is Abu Karib.
Or their best part is Abu Karb
