أمن قلوصٍ عدت لم يؤذها أحد

إلا تذكرها بالرحل أوطانا

إلا تذكرها بالرحل أوطانا

Is it because a young she-camel ran off, though no one had harmed her

save that, beneath the saddle, she remembered her homelands—

كان العذار بها فأنبت إذ نفرت

وإنما الذنب فيها للذي خأنا

the halter was on her, but snapped when she bolted,

and the blame for her lies only with the one who proved faithless—

منحتنا منك هجراناً ومقليةً

ولم ترزنا كما قد كنت تغشانا

that you have given us estrangement and hatred from you,

and have not visited us as you once used to call on us?

خفض عليك فما في الناس ذو إبلٍ

إلا وأينقه يشردن أحيانا

إلا وأينقه يشردن أحيانا

Take it easy on yourself: no one among people owns camels

without his she-camels straying from time to time.
