وبينا ترى السلطان بين مواكب

بدا لك يوماً شخصه وهو مفرد

And while you see the ruler amid processions,

While you see the sultan among processions

One day his figure appears before you, alone.

سحابة صيفٍ كان فيها فأقشعت

سحابة صيفٍ كان فيها فأقشعت

فمقتضب منهم وآخر يحمد

فمقتضب منهم وآخر يحمد

He was within a summer cloud, which then dispersed;

A summer cloud that was in it so it cleared

So one of them is cut off, and another is praised.

So one is regretful of them and another praised
