أعاذلO reproacher ليتwould that البحرthe sea خمرwine وليتنيand would that I
مدىthroughout الدهرall time حوتa fish ساكنdwelling لجةthe depths البحرthe sea
O reproacher, would that the sea were wine, and would that I
I wish the sea were wine, and I wish I were
Were forever a fish dwelling in the depths of the sea.
A whale living in the sea's abyss for ages long.
فأضحىso I pass the morning وأمسيand I pass the evening لاnot أفارقI leave لجةًthe depths
أرويI quench بهاwith it عظميmy bones وأشفيand I heal بهاwith it صدريmy breast
Then I would pass my mornings and evenings without leaving the depths,
Then day and night I'd never leave the abyss,
Quenching my bones with it and healing my breast with it.
Quenching my bones and healing my heart with it.
طوالthroughout اللياليthe nights ليسis not عنديfor me بناضبٍrunning dry
ولاnor ناقصٍdiminishing حتىuntil أساقI am driven إلىto الحشرthe Gathering
Throughout the nights, it would never run dry for me,
Through the long nights I have no young lover,
Nor diminish, until I am driven to the Gathering.
No lover growing old, until I come to the day of gathering.
