دَعَونَاwe called upon اللهَGod ذَاpossessor of النَّعماءِblessings لَمَّاwhen
علينَاover us طَالَlasted long سُلطَانُrule العَبِيدِthe slaves
We called upon God, Lord of blessings, when
We called on Allah, the Gracious, when
the slaves’ rule over us had lasted long.
The rule of the slaves over us grew long,
فكُنَّاso we were والخَلِيفَةُand the caliph إذwhen سُوءِwretchedness حَالٍcondition
بِمَسلَمَةwith Maslama المبارَكِthe blessed أَوor سَعِيدِSa'id
Thus we and the caliph, when in a wretched state,
So we and the Caliph were in evil state
with blessed Maslama or Sa'id,
By Maslamah the Blessed or Sa'eed.
كَأهلِlike the people of جَهَنّمٍHell لَمَّاwhen استَغاثُواthey cried for help
أُغِيثُواthey were given relief بِالحَمِيمِwith boiling water مَعَalong with الصَّدِيدِpus
were like the people of Hell when they cried for help:
Like the people of Hell when they cried out,
they were given relief with boiling water and pus.
They were helped with scalding water and pus.
