خَواضِعُ طَيرٍ تَتَّقي الصَقرَ لِبَّدُ
As though the mighty kings, submissive before you,
As though kings defeated are to you subdued,
were cowering birds, huddled in fear of the falcon.
Like frightened birds that from the falcon flee.

You turn upon them an eye like Hakam's,
Among them wielding wisely your control,
and so abase some peoples and raise others to lordship.
You humble some, while others you exalt.
